GM confirmed they are to build an Australian based V8 rear wheel drive sedan that is gonna be badged as 2014 Chevrolet SS (Super Sport). That same car will be used in 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, said : “As a passionate race fan and performance enthusiast, I am thrilled that Chevrolet will deliver a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR racecar in the SS that is closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale.”
Essentially, the 2013-2014 Chevy SS is a civilian version of Chevrolet Caprice Police vehicle. 3 years ago Bob Lutz, GM executive, said that the Pontiac G8 is “too good to waste” and he was having plans to bring is back as Caprice.
Since all cars, the Caprice, Pontiac G8 and the Holden Commodore, are/were based on the same Zeta platform, it is very likely that 2014 SS will be based on it too, but will feature 6.2 V8 [same as Camaro SS] instead of Caprice’s 355-horsepowered 6.0 V8.
