Ford is giving car enthusiasts and Mustang lovers the chance to own a piece of history with the upcoming auction of the first production model of the highly-anticipated 2024 Mustang GT. The lucky buyer of VIN 001 will not only get to own a one-of-a-kind collector’s item but also get to customize the car to their exact specifications. The auction will take place at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale event later this month and proceeds will go towards the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The winning bidder will have the opportunity to choose from any standard Mustang GT fastback options, including the six-speed manual or the 10-speed automatic transmission. They will also be able to select from any of the Mustang’s 11 color options, any of the selection of alloy wheels that range from 18- to 20-inches in size, as well as brake calipers in one of three colors: Black, Red, or Grabber Blue. The buyer will also be given a choice of interior packages and can select the Performance Pack, which adds Recaro seats and an active exhaust to the sports car, as well as an electronic drift brake to aid novices learn how to drift.
Under the hood, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine provides drivers with up to 486 hp (362 kW/493 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque, thanks to a new dual air intake and throttle body design. This is not the first time that Ford has auctioned off a new generation of Mustang’s VIN 001 for charity through Barrett-Jackson, previously doing the same with the latest Mustang Shelby GT500, Mustang Mach 1, and Mustang Bullitt.
